The congress presented the latest scientific knowledge on the nutritional causes of cancer, as well as dietary methods of preventing and treating these diseases. From numerous and varied presentations in the field of dietetics and medicine, conclusions were drawn that up to half of the cases could be avoided thanks to a healthy lifestyle. Nutritional and physical activity recommendations for Poles were presented, based on national research.
They were reminded of the new Nutrition and Physical Activity Pyramid, which, together with the principles of healthy eating, was amended in 2016 by the Food and Nutrition Institute.
The current Pyramid is a response to the WHO recommendations, incorporating the idea of "Less sugar, salt and fat, more fiber. It is based on daily physical activity - at least 30-45 minutes. Research proves that vegetables and fruits should be the basis of our nutrition, because they significantly reduce the incidence of cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, cancer and extend human life span. For these reasons, they also found themselves at the base of the pyramid. An important change is the placement of herbs in the pyramid that help reduce salt intake. They can replace table salt, which is considered a "silent killer" and is largely responsible for heart attacks and strokes.
